The viability of latent prints depends on the surface, the integrity of the print, and the time that has passed. Other factors affecting fingerprints include the temperature and environment to which they have been exposed, particularly if over a long period of time. Under reasonable conditions, prints are stable and can be lifted for a period up to many months. After the print or prints are lifted from the particular surface, Accu-metrics uses certain magnetic powders and other dusting materials to clarify the print and enable it to be lifted. The print can then be compared to the known print submitted by the client for the purpose of establishing whether there is a match.
